Today is a national holiday for Bulgaria, the day of our liberation from the Ottoman Empire with the Russo-Turkish War in 1878.

I saw these worker make an enormous martenitsa of this tree in the Central Square (the building to the left is the Municipal Hall). Well, it isn't exactly the old tradition, but who cares? :)

Wow, I've managed to take 222 photos in about 3 hours! (I would have taken even more, but my batteries went almost dead and I had forgotten the spare ones, so at one point I almost stopped shooting and just enjoyed the snow)! It is in the Town Garden again, next to that fountain from yesterday's entry. I was absolutely fascinated with the trees and the chain when I was a little girl. :)

It is dedicated to the fallen in the battle for my home town, Stara Zagora, in 1877, that was part of the War of Liberation between Russia and the Ottoman Empire (and yes, it was our ( Read more... )

I was pleasantly surprised this evening to see that water runnning in this fountain again. It's in the most central park of my home town, known as the Town Garden. The same park we looked at from that cafe table. :)

The "interesting" pink colour is due to B's camera getting old. I cropped out the most irritating pink stripes from some of the photos in my PhotoBucket album, but I didn't have enough patience for all.
